We are so excited to be planning our first Rise Desert Trip. If you’ve never been to the desert before, here’s some important info and an idea of what to expect.
We will be camping in open desert in Ocotillo Wells. If you want an idea of roughly what area we will be in, you can search for The Blu-Inn RV Park at 2189 CA-78, Borrego Springs, CA 92004, but we will NOT be staying there. There will be no access to electricity or water and we will be within very close driving distance to pit toilets. We will be bringing our motorhome, so we can help with charging cell phones off of our generator, if you need it. We will be having a family style dinner Friday night (burritos and sides), so please sign up to bring something to share. We are going on a group off-road ride, that will be suitable for most trucks and jeeps, although some people may bring dune buggies or quads. We will probably do that Saturday morning, depending on when a majority of people are arriving/leaving. You can expect to take your vehicle on off-road rides, hang out at camp, play games, make mud and play in the dirt, take in the beautiful outdoors and wildflowers, sit by the campfire and do lots of relaxing.
- Bedding/shelter/clothing to keep you warm and dry. At night it will probably be 40-50 degrees and during the day it will probably be 60-70 degrees. However, it could get wet or windy at any time. Bring padding to put under a sleeping bag, because the ground can be rocky.
- Games, especially outdoor yard games, Christmas trees to burn, anything that sounds fun
- You will be responsible for bringing all food and drinks, other than the potluck-style burrito dinner on Friday night. Bring water, low-prep/easy-clean options for breakfast (bagels, cereal) and lunch (chips/dip, sandwiches), your own dinner if you will be coming Thursday night (we sometimes grab a $5 hot and ready on the way out), drinks, adult beverages, snacks.
- Extra gas, if you think you will need it
